Mums & Dads… include yourselves among those you care for
Saturday 1st April, Hill of the O’Neill & Ranfurly House Arts Centre, Dungannon
Saturday 6th May, Flowerfield Arts Centre, Portstewart
10.30AM – 4.00PM
Self-care is not selfish, it’s a necessary part of parenting challenging children.
At TESSA and Adoption UK we know how much commitment, energy and resilience parenting requires. Even with all the resources available, there are some things we cannot change for our children, but we can look after ourselves, safe in the knowledge that parents who feel nourished and cared are much better at caring for others.
So, just because you are worth it, we are offering you a range of therapies and strategies with a wealth of proven benefits. For example, on-site chair massage can reduce harmful levels of anxiety and increase “feel good” endorphins. Likewise, progressive muscle relaxation calms the fight-or-flight response that can be triggered by everyday worries and pressures when you live with ongoing stress. Relaxation also improves physical health by releasing muscle tension, lowering blood pressure and slowing heart and breathing rates. We know from experience, from the experts and from each other that when we reduce our own stress levels all the family benefits. Enjoy the treat!
Here’s what one parent had to say about our previous self-care day…
“The day was brilliant – I didn’t want it to end. I spend so much time trying to be a better parent that I side-line my own needs. The reality is that I’m a better parent when I’m in a good place. I used to teach lifesaving and the first rule of lifesaving is to put your own safety first, only then can you be of use to anyone else.”
